When Professor Art Swersey arrived for the final class of his new Data and Decision Analysis course on September 26, he was greeted with a roomful of first-year students wearing “I ♥ Art” t-shirts.

“All the first years have Art Swersey for Data and Decision Analysis, and it is a blast,” says Rehana Abbas ’08. “I never thought I would be saying that about Data…. He brings props and tells these great stories.”

Abbas and her classmates were discussing the class at a happy hour last week, she explains, “when Miriam Droller ’08 said ‘I wish I had an ‘I ♥ Art’ t-shirt!’ I thought it was too fun to let the idea go.”

Abbas found a company that could produce the shirts in one day, and she and classmate Allison Warren took orders, collected payment, and delivered the finished shirts. Because of the tight turnaround time, Abbas didn’t expect to get more than a few dozen orders. Instead, nearly two-thirds of the Class of 2008 bought a shirt for a closing salute to their professor.
