M. Barton Waring '87
Head of Client Advisory Group & Managing Director
Barclays Global Investors

Back

"Yale SOM introduced me to the best of modern finance theory, and enhanced my abilities to think, speak, and write about valuable new investment ideas -- and to influence the financial industry's largest investors. I've always enjoyed my work, even before Yale SOM, but now my ability to make a difference is in a different league entirely."

Barton Waring joined Barclays Global Investors in 1995. Mr. Waring has run Barclay's Client Advisory Group since 1996, where he has extended the firm's investment advisory services to Barclay's strategic partner clients by assisting with total portfolio and total asset class investment concerns. He has an extensive background in classical investment strategy and policy, asset allocation, and quantitative investment management, gained from his work with large defined benefit and defined contribution plans in both consulting and advisory roles. This background includes having been the manager of Ibbotson Associates, a practice leader for the asset consulting and asset-liability consulting practice of Towers Perrin for the western and central US region, based in Chicago, and head of the defined contribution business of Morgan Stanley Asset Management.

Mr. Waring received his BS degree in economics from the University of Oregon, his JD degree from Lewis and Clark, with honors, and his MBA degree in finance from Yale School of Management. He has written many articles on topical issues in finance and he speaks regularly at industry conferences.
