Peter R. Watkins

Peter Watkins assumed the role of chief executive officer of Webroot Software, Inc. in January of 2007. Previously, he was the CEO of Elemental Security, Inc., a venture-capital funded security software company developing enterprise security and compliance management products. He was also the president and CEO of Resonate, Inc., a publicly held software company providing performance management solutions to large enterprises. Peter was responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of Resonate before its sale in 2003.

Recognized worldwide as a leading expert in computer security, Peter has more than 20 years of both hardware and software experience in the development and delivery of new products and technologies. Prior to joining Resonate, Peter held the positions of president and chief operating officer for Network Associates (now McAfee), where he was responsible for managing product development, sales, services, support, and marketing for multiple global business units that generated more than $900 million in revenue. During his five years at Network Associates, Peter held a variety of positions, including vice president of international sales, general manager of the security business unit, and executive vice president of product development and services. Before Network Associates, Peter worked at SunSoft, a division of Sun Microsystems, where he was responsible for sales, marketing, and support in EMEA. Previously, Peter held marketing positions at Apple Computer and at MicroPro, two of the industry’s pioneers in personal computers and PC software.

He currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Yale School of Management and served on Webroot’s board of directors before taking on the CEO role.

Peter received a BA in economics from Wesleyan University and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.
