Douglas W. Shorenstein

Shorenstein Properties LLC is the successor to a business that was established in 1924 and is today one of the largest privately-held owners and operators of U.S. Class A office properties nationwide. Doug Shorenstein joined the family business in 1983 and became chairman and chief executive officer in 1995. During his tenure, the company has evolved from a San Francisco-focused real estate operating company into a real estate investment management company active throughout the United States. Since 1992, Shorenstein Properties LLC has sponsored a series of closed-end investment funds with large endowments and foundations and the Shorenstein family as primary investors.

Mr. Shorenstein supports numerous civic and philanthropic causes and serves on the board of many such institutions. His current nonprofit board activity includes: board of directors, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco; board member, Environmental Defense; board member, Yale School of Management; board member, Vanderbilt University; executive council, UCSF Medical Center; executive committee, The Real Estate Roundtable; and board member, The Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

Prior to joining Shorenstein, Mr. Shorenstein worked for three years as a real estate attorney with the law firm of Shearman & Sterling LLP in its New York office in its Real Estate Group.

Mr. Shorenstein graduated from University of California at Berkeley with a BA, and from University of California, Hastings College of the Law, with a JD.
