Professor Bris' research focuses on the effect of the market for
corporate control on stock prices and the relationships between
the market for corporate control and capital structure. His interests
cover the application of market microstructure tools and game

empirical tests using advanced econometric methodologies.

Extending the Global Smallpox Bioterror Policy Debate
The global eradication of smallpox stands among the most critical
public health achievements of the last century. Professor Edward
H. Kaplan continues to argue that in the event of a smallpox
bioterror attack, rapid mass vaccination of the population in
the area of the attack is preferable to ring vaccination, where
only the contacts of smallpox cases would be vaccinated.

President Richard C. Levin has named Susan Hockfield
as the next Provost of the University. Hockfield, who was reappointed
earlier this fall to a second term as dean of the Graduate School
of Arts and Sciences, will succeed Alison Richard, who has been
nominated as the Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge University.
