Dean's Message
A great deal has happened since I last wrote. We completed the first term of SOM’s new MBA curriculum. I traveled to China, South Africa, Tanzania, and Tampa, among other exotic locations. The school witnessed several significant arrivals, and the announcement of one significant departure, which I will relate at the end of this note.

Inside the New Curriculum
Just this past week, students completed the second phase of the new core curriculum — the Organizational Perspectives. Browse the syllabi to see what the students have learned in these all-new courses. In other curriculum news, students generated business ideas for the Innovator course and launched a carbon offset program to reduce the global warming impact of their air travel for the International Experience.

Three SOM Alumni Prepare to Launch Chinese Home Shopping Network
LuckyPai, a TV home-shopping company focused on delivering value and quality products in an entertaining format to Chinese consumers, is the entrepreneurial brainchild of three SOM classmates — co-founders Raymond Chang ’96 and Wayne Zhang ’96, CEO and CFO respectively, and Chang Su ’96, COO.

Hilary C. Pennington '83 Selected by Gates Foundation as Leader for U.S. Area
Nonprofit executive Hilary C. Pennington YC '77, '83, has been named director of special initiatives for U.S. programs at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In her new role, Pennington will lead the new effort focused on one-time opportunities for the foundation to respond to unique challenges and unanticipated events in the United States.

Yale SOM Alumni Fund: A Call to Action
“This is a call to action,” says Susan Lennon ’85, chair of the SOM Alumni Fund. “It is a call to each of us as leaders. It is a call to make a difference, and giving is one way to do this.”

Annual Elections for SOM Alumni Association Board of Directors
Online ballots for this year's Yale SOM Alumni Association board of directors election were sent in early March to all alumni for whom the school has an active email address. Voting ends on March 31. Election results will be shared with the alumni community at large at the Annual General Meeting of the SOMAA in New Haven on Friday, April 13, 2007, and in the next issue of the Alumni Newsletter.

Coming Soon: Q1 — The New SOM Alumni Magazine
A team of editors and administrators at SOM is currently putting the finishing touches on Q1, a new publication for alumni and friends of Yale SOM. If all goes according to schedule, it will be delivered to your door by early April.

Save the Date: Events in China and New Haven
Mark your calendars for three extraordinary events in March and April. The Millstein Center for Corporate Governance and Performance presents Corporate Governance Challenges for China: A Panel Discussion in Shanghai. In New Haven, SOM hosts the annual Internship Fund Auction and Healthcare 2007 conference. All of these events are open to Yale SOM alumni.
