From the Admissions Office
In the admissions office, we are always trying to think of new ways we can share with you all of the exciting things happening here at SOM. That's why I’m thrilled to announce the new SOM Community Blog. The blog serves as a forum for members of the SOM community to share their experiences, so that you can get a better sense of what it’s like to be a student at SOM. The blog entries are posted directly by students (and a few other members of the SOM community) without any screening or review process.
Our team of bloggers consists of both first-year and second-year students whose interests range from finance to nonprofit. Some are student government leaders. One is the president of the Yale Economic Review. Some have started their own student clubs. And they hail from places ranging from Azerbaijan to New York.
In some of the latest entries, you can read about Professor Jeffrey Garten’s course, Leading a Global Company, how the new core curriculum helped prepare one student for the International Experience, the benefits of being a member of the marketing club, the annual Internship Fund Auction, and much more! We hope you enjoy reading their stories and encourage you to visit the blog often to stay up to date on the latest happenings at SOM.
In addition to launching the new blog, this past weekend we held our admitted student Welcome Weekend here at SOM. Around 100 potential members of the Class of 2009 came to campus to share a few days together before returning next fall. It was an exceptional weekend that mixed stimulating faculty presentations and exercises with student-led panels and activities, as well as chances to socialize at receptions, meals, and parties.
One of the highlights of the weekend was Dean Podolny’s address to the Class of 2009 in which he talked about the class and what makes it such a special group, as well as what makes SOM a special place to be. We encourage you to take a moment and view his talk.
