Global Network for Advanced Management Plans November Meeting in Turkey

Posted on: October 18, 2012

The Global Network for Advanced Management will hold its next meeting of business school leaders from November 26 to 28 at Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Global Network is a consortium of 22 international business schools, including Yale SOM, that connects faculty, students, and deans with their peers worldwide to improve business education in an increasingly globalized, more competitive world. The Global Network includes institutions in both developed nations and emerging markets. Deans representing the member schools launched the network at a meeting at Yale in April.

"This second meeting is a great opportunity to take stock, sharpen our focus, and generate ideas for the next round of projects and initiatives," said David Bach, Yale SOM's senior associate dean for executive MBA and global programs. "The fact that we are meeting in Istanbul is hugely important. Turkey is a country with a rapidly growing economy that will soon have the largest labor force in Europe. Fostering links between, say, Brazil or Indonesia and Turkey is exactly what the network is about."

Since the Global Network's launch, member schools have been laying the groundwork to address three core objectives: the co-development of case studies that can be shared among schools; connecting students from different schools; and the potential for joint projects and courses.

"We are working on courses that will bring together students from across the network for specific projects," Bach said. "At the same time, network schools are also designing a case study about WPP, the global advertising giant."

Member schools utilize the network to build out distinctively global programs. Yale SOM, for instance, has enrolled the first class in its new Master of Advanced Management Program, which admits exceptional graduates of Global Network schools for a one-year program of study at Yale. In addition, Yale SOM has realigned its International Experience course, a required part of the MBA core curriculum, to include visits to network schools.

In the coming year, Yale SOM will kick off a program to host distinguished visiting scholars from Global Network schools, and other network members are organizing extracurricular events to connect students.

Guest speakers scheduled for the November meeting include Ahmet Bozer, president of Coca-Cola's Eurasia & Africa Group, and Umran Inan, president of Koç University.
