Economist Richard Sandor Describes How 'Good Derivatives' Benefit Society
Richard Sandor, the "father of financial futures" and founder of the Chicago Climate Exchange, explained how financial innovation can be used to address global environmental issues in a September 10 address at Yale SOM.
Sandor, an economist who is currently chairman and CEO of Environmental Financial Products, is known for his view that financial markets and environmental issues will increasingly converge in coming years. In his talk, he asserted that water reserves and quality are the next major issues that market-based solutions will address. He also stressed the value of derivatives as viable financial instruments when they are transparent and reliably regulated.
Sandor was the inaugural speaker in the 2012-2013 Sabin Sustainable Venture Prize Speaker Series. The Yale Center for Business and the Environment sponsored Sandor's talk.
