Center for Customer Insights Heads to India
The Center for Customer Insights at the Yale School of Management will host its third annual China India Consumer Insights Conference July 29-30 in New Delhi. This year's event is organized jointly with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
This interdisciplinary conference, part of the center’s China India Consumer Insights Program, brings together researchers and practitioners to share the latest research on consumer and firm behavior related to China and India. The event rotates among locations in the U.S., China, and India.
The first day of the conference will feature sessions with industry leaders. Executives from firms such as Walmart India, Hindustan Unilever Limited, Infiniti Retail, and Huawei India will discuss the state of the consumer economy, the challenges and innovations in reaching emerging market consumers, investing in consumers in the poorest socioeconomic groups, and the opportunities and challenges of getting Indian and Chinese consumers to shop at organized retail outlets.
The following day will focus on presentations of new academic research by scholars from the Indian Institute of Management, Beijing University, New York University, Northwestern University, INSEAD, UC Berkeley, and other top institutions. Their research examines topics including the differences between East Asians’ and Westerners’ reactions to consumer incentives, shanzhai (counterfeit) products in China, the effect product placements in Bollywood films have on Indian consumers, competition between organized and traditional retailers in India, and the drivers of successful market entry into China and India.
The conference is sponsored by Warburg Pincus, the Emerging Markets Initiative at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, INFORMS Society for Marketing Science, the Marketing Science Institute, and the South Asian Studies Council at Yale.
