1,000 Crane Project

Posted on: April 13, 2011

A Japanese proverb states that anyone who folds 1,000 origami cranes will be granted one wish by a crane. For centuries, people have made strings of paper cranes when they or someone they love has been sick or in trouble. This week, Yale SOM students, faculty, and staff worked for five days to create 1,000 cranes as a way to raise funds for the people suffering in the aftermath of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami. The effort was organized by the students of the Japan International Experience trip, the Yale SOM Japan Club, and Student and Academic Services, and Art Swersey, professor of operations research and leader of the International Experience trip to Japan.

Those interested in helping the effort can donate via Mercy Corps.
