Healthcare in the Post-Reform Era Is the Focus of Conference
The seventh annual Yale Healthcare Conference, presented by the Yale Healthcare and Life Sciences Club, will take place on April 1 at the Omni Hotel.
More than 400 healthcare professionals are expected to attend this year's event, titled "The Change Imperative: Navigating the Post-Reform Era." The conference will focus on innovative strategies to overcome the new challenges physicians, insurers, government agencies, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, and other key stakeholders are facing in the current U.S. healthcare system.
Carmen Hooker Odom, president of the Milbank Memorial Fund, a foundation that conducts nonpartisan analysis, study, and research on significant issues in health policy, will present the morning keynote. Dr. Louis W. Sullivan, chairman of the board of the National Health Museum and former secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will present the closing address.
Dr. Robert Galvin, CEO of Equity Healthcare at the Blackstone Group, will lead an executive panel discussion featuring Dr. Giovanni Colella, co-founder of Castlight Health; Dr. David Himmelstein, professor of public pealth at the City University of New York and an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School; and Ann Lamont, managing partner of Oak Investment Partners.
Throughout the day, industry practitioners will lead a series of 16 breakout sessions on topics within the conference theme, including the status of legal and political challenges to the Healthcare Act and the effect on reform implementation; the response of physician practices to cost and reimbursement changes; perspectives on health insurance exchange design; the financial effects of reform on hospitals and health systems; the impact of reform on investment opportunities in the healthcare sector; and the new Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation and lessons for funding programs to improve healthcare delivery.
