Yale Center for Customer Insights Conference to Focus on Marketing in China and India

New Haven, Conn., June 17, 2010 – The Yale Center for Customer Insights at the Yale School of Management will host its second annual China India Consumer Insights Conference July 1-3 at the Wenjin Hotel in Beijing. This year’s event is organized jointly with the China Retail Research Center (CRRC) at the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University.

This interdisciplinary conference is part of the Center for Customer Insight’s China India Insights Program, a research initiative that examines the changing patterns of consumer spending and investing as these emerging markets grow and bring about economic, social, and cultural change. The latest research on both consumer and firm behavior related to China and India will be presented by leading researchers and practitioners. Register and view the agenda on the event page.

Conference keynotes will be presented by Serge Dumont, President Asia Pacific, India, Middle East & Asia, Omnicom Group Inc., with PT Black, Partner, Jigsaw International; Jin Yuhua, President, Beijing Modern Plaza; and Vinay Dixit, Senior Director, Asia Consumer Center, McKinsey & Company.

A panel discussion entitled, “Responding to Market Dynamics: Evolution of Retail Brands and Formats in China and India” will feature Ashok Sethi, Head of Consumer Insights-Emerging Markets, TNS; Yang Dehong, President, E-Future; Vinay Dixit, Senior Director, Asia Consumer Center, McKinsey & Company; Li Fei, Professor, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University and Executive Director, China Retail Research Center, with moderator Lakshman Krishnamurthi, Professor of Marketing, Kellogg School, Northwestern University.

Individual research presentations will focus on topics including the brand preferences of young Chinese consumers; food consumption patterns of Chinese families; how Indian consumers earn, spend, and save; the impact of China’s tax stimulus on automobile choice; factors that drive durable goods adoption in India; and the role of China and India in multinational’s offshoring of R&D. The presenters are from leading institutions including the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations; Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad; Marketing Science Institute; National Council of Applied Economic Research; National University of Singapore; New York University; Northwestern University; Peking University; Stanford University; Tsinghua University; World Bank; and the Yale School of Management, among others.

The conference is sponsored by Warburg Pincus, INFORMS, the South Asian Studies Council and the Inter-Asia Initiative at the MacMillan Center at Yale, and the Marketing Science Institute. The conference rotates among locations in the U.S., China, and India.
