Statement from Dean Sharon Oster on the Situation in Haiti

Posted on: January 14, 2010

We have all been saddened and concerned to learn about the tragic situation in Haiti since it was struck by a major earthquake on Tuesday. Members of the SOM community — including students, faculty, alumni, and staff — have expressed a desire to help in any way they can.

Many organizations are currently rushing to provide relief and assistance to people in Haiti, but one has a particular SOM connection. Mercy Corps is led by CEO Neal Keny-Guyer, a 1982 graduate of the school and a member of the Yale SOM Board of Advisors and the Yale Corporation. Mercy Corps has substantial experience responding to humanitarian crises around the globe and has already deployed an emergency team to Port-au-Prince. Please visit the Mercy Corps website to learn about their Haitian relief efforts, and visit the special Yale School of Management's Haiti Response Fundraiser page on the Mercy Corps site to join with other members of the SOM community in making a financial donation to support those efforts.

Further information about events in Haiti is available at the U.S. Department of State website.

I know I speak for the entire SOM community in sending condolences and sympathy to those affected by this tragedy.
