From the SOMAA President: Alumni Portal Launches

I’m excited to report the Alumni Portal was launched on November 18.

The SOMAA Board and SOM staff have worked diligently over the last few years to create this site. We believe the portal will be a large step forward for all of you to be able to connect with the school and with each other. Our sincere thanks go to the Yale SOM administration for bringing the resources together to help create this outstanding web platform.

If you haven’t yet looked at the portal, I strongly encourage you to do so. Take the time to update your profile and to explore the portal pages for the latest on what is happening at the school and within our alumni community. You can access many of the resources available at SOM and Yale without logging in. Some of the most unique aspects of this portal are on the secure pages, accessible only by SOM alumni as well as faculty, staff, and students at SOM. These pages require you to log in using your net id and password. If you have any problems logging in, please contact Sara Kroon.

The secure pages focus on enabling our alumni to communicate, problem solve, organize, learn, maintain, and enhance SOM relationships on a one-to-one, point-to-point basis. For our regional chapters, you now have the tools readily available to easily create and organize local events and to communicate with your local community members.
 
The portal also enables friendships and professional relationships to develop around matters of personal and professional interest between SOMers in the U.S. and around the world, through Virtual Interest Groups (VIGS).

We’re looking for your ideas on how we can expand and improve the portal, so please use the feedback button on the homepage to share your ideas with us. How else can you help? Here are a few things you can do right now to help us make this an active, dynamic and useful space which you’ll want to keep coming back to: 

• Update your profile
• Submit a class note
• If your firm or organization is looking to hire SOM alumni you can use the portal to spread the word, please contact the Career Development Office
• Join an interest group
• Engage with the Regional Chapters and interest groups by blogging on their respective pages about upcoming conferences and events, career information, industry developments, etc. 
• If you you’d like to start a new Regional Chapter or interest group, email Jeanne Hayes, Director of Alumni Relations at SOM to discuss

I believe the Alumni Portal will be an indispensible tool, enabling us all to actively engage with, contribute to, and find support from our relationship with SOM, Yale, and most importantly, one another.
