Students Spend Spring Break Consulting in Colombia

Members of Yale SOM’s Global Social Enterprise (GSE) club, founded by students in 2004 to provide pro bono consulting services to socially focused organizations in developing countries, recently returned from a two-week trip to Latin America where they assisted six social enterprises mostly focused on Colombian environmental causes. In previous years, the GSE has traveled to Brazil, Madagascar, and other countries, with the intent of stimulating economic growth at a local level.

The students in the GSE club — many of whom are in SOM’s joint degree program with the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies — prepared for their spring break trip by engaging in two half-semester courses with faculty advisor and professor Garry Brewer, concurrently completing an independent study focused on proposed client recommendations and presentations for the Colombia visit.
