Yale SOM Student a Winner of Net Impact Green Challenge

Austin Whitman ’07, who spearheaded a drive to offset the carbon emissions of this year’s International Experience, was named one of three winners of the inaugural Net Impact Green Challenge. The contest recognizes the actions of students who developed effective environmental programs at their colleges. Whitman, who received a joint degree from the Yale School of Management and the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, created a multi-pronged program aimed at first-year students, who participated in the two-week International Experience in January. Close to 50 percent of the class contributed, raising $7,000, which purchased offsets for the roughly 1,000 tons of CO2 created by the trip.
