Marketing Club Provides Retailing Suggestions for SOM Gear Online
The Marketing Club is more than just a way for students to learn about new industries and career opportunities. It’s also a way for students to use their business skills and contribute to the SOM community.
This past year a team of first-year students from the Marketing Club — Issac Cohen, Erin Edinburgh, Paul Ip, and Lisa Schilling — completed one of five internal consulting projects for the school, also called "in-reach projects." The students collaborated with the SOM Mailroom & Facilities Office (the Hub) and the Office of Alumni Relations to evaluate the school’s online merchandise store, SOM Gear Online, and recommend ways to increase the breadth of product offerings and the traffic to the site.
To accomplish this, the students analyzed data from previous SOM Gear Online transactions and designed and administered an online survey targeted to alumni who will be celebrating their reunions this fall.
After collecting and analyzing the data, the students presented their findings to the Hub and the Office of Alumni Relations. They found that awareness of the SOM Gear site is low and recommended improved promotion; suggested adding long-sleeved t-shirts, mugs, and shorts to the site's offerings; and proposed getting more feedback by distributing the survey to the entire alumni body.
We would like to thank all of the alumni who participated in the survey. If you would like to share your thoughts on how to improve SOM Gear Online, you can fill out the survey online.
