From the Admissions Office
It’s been an exciting year at Yale SOM, marked by the rollout of our new curriculum. Here in the Admissions Office, we've seen an increase in applications and launched new tools for you to learn more about the community.
This year we were fortunate to meet many impressive prospective applicants at Yale SOM receptions and other events throughout the world. We’re hitting the road again in August and look forward to expanding our travel schedule to include even more cities and venues. Our goal is to bring to Yale SOM the best and brightest business students from across the globe to add to the diversity of our community.
As we wrap up this admissions season, we wanted to pass along some tips for candidates preparing applications for fall 2008. Our online application will be available in August, but there are some things you can do now to prepare yourself.
- Think about why you want to pursue an MBA – During the admissions process we are looking for candidates with clearly defined goals and reasons for getting an MBA. Start by talking to people in fields that are of interest to you so your essays will be cohesive and clear.
- Consider options for recommenders – When choosing a recommender, think of people who have worked with you in a professional capacity and can comment on your work. You’ll want to ask two people who know you very well and can talk about what you’ll bring to the Yale SOM community.
- Plan a visit to campus – Campus visits for the 2007-2008 academic year will begin on Monday, September 17, 2007. If you are going to be in New Haven this summer and would like to arrange for a tour of the campus, please contact the Admissions Visitor Center at 203-432-6380 or email mba.admissions@yale.edu.
- Explore the Yale SOM website and make connections through our new web tools – In an effort to bring more information to candidates who don’t have the opportunity to visit campus, we’ve added new tools to our website. Students and admissions officers are online to answer questions though our message boards. To read about the MBA experience first-hand, check out our SOM Community Blog. If you would like to connect with a student who shares your interests, please contact one of our admissions ambassadors. These are great resources for prospective applicants for fall 2008, as well as those thinking ahead for the next few years.
We look forward to talking with you as you begin researching business schools. Our event schedule will be listed online in August and we hope to meet you this fall!
