Professor in the Practice of International Economics and Finance & Senior Fellow of the Jackson Institute
Professor Mohan has researched extensively in the areas of economic reforms and liberalization, industrial economics, urban economics, infrastructure studies, economic regulation, monetary policy, and the financial sector. He is the author of three books on urban economics and urban development.
Prior to Yale SOM, Mohan served as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India where he was in charge of monetary policy, financial markets, economic research and statistics. He visited Stanford University in 2009 as distinguished consulting professor. He also served as secretary of the department of economic affairs in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. He has recently been appointed chairman of the high level national transport development policy committee by the Indian Prime Minister with the rank of minister of state. He is non executive vice chairman of the Indian Institute of Human Settlements, and also a global adviser to McKinsey and Co.
Mohan has been a member of the economic advisory council to the prime minister of India; a member of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India; a member of the National Security Advisory Board; a member of the Tariff Authority of Major Ports; and a member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India. He has also served on the Yale President’s Council on International Activities (PCIA) since 2005.
