The Laura Cha (Shi Mei Lun) Scholarship for students from Mainland China who demonstrate financial need
"I feel very deeply about serving the government because it is where I have been able to make a real difference. Today in China, however, most business-school graduates are drawn to the rewards of the private sector. My wish is to attract some of the best students back to the public sector. That is the reason I endowed a scholarship at Yale SOM." Laura Cha, the first high-ranking official to serve in the governments of both Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China, has endowed a full two-year scholarship to be awarded every other year. Trained in the private sector before entering public life, Laura Cha has forged a career that embodies the values of SOM. She has personally invested in educating scores of young leaders because "China needs more people who not only understand how a market economy works, but who will use their expertise for the public good."
