Betsy Rotman Pace '80

Betsy Pace is a partner in the boutique consulting firm of Spark & Kindling.

As an accomplished operating executive and outside consultant, Betsy Pace stands out for “building organizations that work.” Whether it is creating a business plan, making key marketing decisions, or developing an executive staff, Betsy is able to help others see the linkages between strategy and execution, to set goals and priorities, and to achieve results.

Known for her leadership and keen analytics, Betsy has spent more than 20 years developing disciplined approaches to marketing, strategy, and company stewardship. After graduating from SOM in 1980, Betsy began her business career overseas with the Boston Consulting Group, gaining a global view of business and learning how to effectively guide management teams in developing and implementing strategy.

Upon returning to the United States, Betsy joined Apple Computer and led the marketing charge for the Apple USA's K-12 Education Team (the K-12 market was Apple's largest at the time). Betsy then joined Paramount Communications to become VP Marketing of their educational software division, Computer Curriculum Corporation. Subsequently, she was appointed general manager of Paramount Interactive, Paramount’s successful technology start-up, translating creative properties into entertainment and education software. She then took the plunge in joining an early internet start-up, OnLive Technologies, first as VP Marketing and subsequently as CEO.

Over her varied career, Betsy has demonstrated the distinctive ability to work effectively as both executive and consultant in a wide range of environments, from large, highly structured companies to entrepreneurial start-ups. Her “get real” attitude brings focus to a growing, entrepreneurial company without extinguishing the creative spark.

Betsy received her BA from Brown University. In 2005, she headed up the 25th reunion class gift committee for SOM. She is currently a member of the board of trustees of the Menlo School in Atherton, California, and president of the fund-raising arm of theFamily Service Agency of San Mateo County. She is married to fellow 1980 SOM graduate and advisory board member Bill Pace: They have two children. Lizzie is a sophomore at Brown and Alison is a high school junior at The Menlo School.
