Mr. Zacharias was named chief operating officer of W. P. Carey & Co. in 2005. W. P. Carey & Co. LLC is a real estate investment firm headquartered in New York City that currently owns a portfolio of net leased properties and manages a series of publicly held, privately traded REIT's. W. P. Carey is a growing enterprise which provides companies with creative solutions for their long-term financing needs through build-to-suits and sale leasebacks of corporate properties, and offers an income oriented return for its investors.
Prior to joining W. P. Carey, Mr. Zacharias was a senior vice president of MetroNexus North America, a Morgan Stanley Real Estate Fund Enterprise. Prior to joining MetroNexus, Mr. Zacharias was a principal at Lend Lease Development U.S., a subsidiary of Lend Lease Corporation, a global real estate investment management company. Between 1981 and 1998, Mr. Zacharias was a senior officer at Corporate Property Investors (CPI), which at the time of its merger into Simon Property Group in 1998, was the largest private equity REIT.
Mr. Zacharias received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Princeton University in 1976 in architecture and urban planning, and a MBA from the Yale School of Management in 1979. Mr. Zacharias previously served as an independent director of W. P. Carey's publicly held non-traded REIT’s CIP®, CPA®:12, CPA®:14 and CPA®:15 and U.S. Prime Property, Inc. He was formerly a director of the National Academy of Design, Creative Time and the Art Advisory Service of the Museum of Modern Art and a former trustee of the Groton School. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute, International Council of Shopping Centers, and NAREIT.
